Making a 3D structure.

Making a 3D structure.

Week 2 Fiona Campbell sculpture course.

Out on my bicycle 🚴 in Middlesbrough. Anish Kapoor (2010-11) Temenos at Middlehaven near River Tees and Middlesbrough Football Ground.

Cotton, felt and cardboard relief.

Today set out to make a relief using different types of paper. Using the self portrait was unsuccessful as the papers were unsuitable for the shapes. Switched to making a relief including a pile of scrunched paper, tea dyed khadi paper with an existing ink drawing. The simpler square and rectangles worked better.

Traced yesterday’s line drawing and traced onto paper and card.

Second day on sculpture course. Aim to look at work of Kamal Appel and explore how to turn a 2D line drawing into 3D shape.
Drew 3 self-portraits ink on found papers (two tea / coffee dyed postcards and one folio size paper from old music book). Only looking at my reflection not the paper and trying to use a continuous line. Tried idea about using wire over the larger drawing. Hung the wire at different points in a frame.

11 January Fiona Campbell Sculpture Course. Self-portrait thinking Giacometti: conte crayon on board that was covered in a thin film of clay.
